You Will Need

- 1.6 oz Amber Musk Fragrance Oil (a 10% fragrance load)
- 2 pre-tabbed cotton or wooden wicks, sized for your vessel
- 2 heat-safe candle vessels (8 oz jars or tins)
- Wick stickers or a dab of hot glue
- A pouring pitcher and a saucepan (for a double boiler)
- A thermometer (candy or infrared)
- A wooden spoon or spatula
- Clothespins, chopsticks, or a wick-centering tool
- Kitchen scale
Instructions
1. Prep your vessels and wicks.
Make sure your jars are clean, dry, and at room temperature. Stick a wick tab to the center of the bottom of each vessel, pressing firmly so it holds. Rest a clothespin or wick-centering tool across the rim to keep the wick upright and centered while you pour.
2. Weigh and melt the wax.
Weigh out 1 lb of soy wax. Set up a double boiler — a pouring pitcher inside a saucepan of simmering water — and add the wax to the pitcher. Heat gently, stirring now and then, until the wax fully melts and reaches about 185°F. Never melt wax directly over a burner, and never leave it unattended.
3. Add the Amber Musk fragrance oil.
Once the wax reaches 185°F, take it off the heat and pour in your 1.6 oz of Amber Musk Fragrance Oil. Stir slowly and steadily for a full 2 minutes. This is the step people rush — and it's the one that matters most. Thorough stirring binds the fragrance to the wax so your candle smells as rich when it burns as it does in the bottle.
4. Cool, then pour.
Let the fragranced wax cool to about 135°F before pouring — pouring too hot is the number-one cause of sinkholes, frosting, and cracked tops. When it's ready, pour slowly and steadily into your prepped vessels, leaving about half an inch of headspace at the top. Keep a little wax in reserve for a top-off pour if you need it later.
5. Set, center, and cure.
Leave the candles undisturbed at room temperature for 24 hours — no fridge, no moving them around. Once fully set, trim each wick to about ¼ inch. Then comes the hardest part: patience. Let your candles cure for 1 to 2 weeks before the first burn. Curing lets the fragrance fully bond with the wax, and it's the difference between a faint scent and one that fills the whole room.
For the Best Scent Throw
- Trim before every burn. Keep the wick at ¼ inch to prevent smoking and mushrooming.
- Respect the first burn. Let the melt pool reach the edges of the jar before you put it out — usually 2 to 3 hours. This prevents "tunneling," where the candle burns down the middle and wastes wax.
- Burn in sessions of 3 to 4 hours, then let it cool completely before relighting.
