Peppermint is believed to originate from northern Africa and the Mediterranean, and is actually a hybrid of Spearmint and Watermint. When distilled, peppermint is seen to have a very fragrant odor compared to other mint species. Historically, mint has been used in oral care in Europe for thousands of years, as the monks had first used peppermint for tooth polish.
