GENERAL INFORMATION:
While this is declared as an “English Type”, it is of the Roman chamomile chemotype, which is native to Southern and Western Europe. Roman Chamomile is different than other chamomile species due to its sweet herbal and apple scent, and lack of blue pigment, which is known in Moroccan Chamomile. Historically, chamomile is known for its healing properties by both the ancient Egyptians and Romans. Chamomile held spiritual significance, for chamomile was thought to be the first gift from the Sun God of ancient Egypt, as well as using chamomile oil to preserve pharaohs in their tombs. In the Middle Ages, chamomile was used in beer to remove the bitterness and used as a general fragrance for celebrations.
